Everything You Need To Know To Get Involved
We encourage everyone in our community to participate in some form of tournament or competition. If you are not interested in getting selected for our sectionals/nationals team, there is absolutely no pressure to perform well! No coaches, parents or recruiters. Instead most competitions offer a much more relaxed environment even at the highest level of club tournaments.
Note: You do not need to be registered for our ladder to compete.
Below is a description about how you can get involved at every level:
Intraclubs
About twice a semester, we offer students within the University of Maryland to compete against each other, great for first time competitors who are looking to get more involved in the game. This type of tournament normally has the least time commitment as well.
Interclubs
These away tournaments give members a chance to compete against other schools in the mid/northeast. They take place during the weekends and we highly suggest that you finish your work for the weekend since the tournament and activities take up the entire weekend.
Home Invitational
This is a special interclub since our club hosts many other universities right in College Park! We dedicate around 4-5 teams for UMD students to participate meaning about 40-50 students can participate in our home invite.
USTA/NIRSA
These are our most competitive tournaments and we set them to invite only and numerous factors are taken into account for selection. Typically the person that makes these selection is an e-board member(s) who played either sectionals or nationals, or is T5 in the ladder. For Fall 2025, contact Saurav for questions
The ladder is a new system implemented to rank members by tennis level. The ladder is most important for USTA/NIRSA tournaments but we do also use the ladder to determine other teams (however, that is not the entire decision factor). We encourage people who want to play matches with other members to join our ladder. Please speak to board members in case you have more questions about the topic.
